Nick Hicks started at Sanctuary Personnel in 2007, initially working within the compliance department. He joined when the company employed around 30 people. Now, there are 250 employees and Nick heads-up the entire IT department, managing a small team of engineers.
Reflecting on when he started, Nick recalls being given the opportunity to work in several different teams:
“I completed my Level 2 Business & Administration qualification inside of 10 months and during that time I managed to gain experience working in a number of different departments. I even helped pull together information required for the company’s first ISO9001 submission.”
Whilst Nick enjoyed working in various teams, IT was what really interested him though. He said:
“I have been gaming since the age of seven and when I joined I was gaming competitively. James Rook, our MD, knew this and took me aside to ask me whether I would be interested in pursuing a career in IT. Naturally I said yes, and since then I have been responsible for servicing all our IT requirements during what has been a period of rapid expansion.”
Talking about his biggest achievement to date, Nick said:
“Moving 250 people working across three separate locations into one central office was certainly challenging, but exciting at the same time. It was essential that down-time was minimised, especially being one of the largest public sector recruitment companies in the UK. It’s a moments like that when I realise how far I have come.”
